There are still some vacancies for Memorial day, so grab your fishing buddy and come out with us! Fish on!
Friday, May 27, 2011 May 26th Combat Tournament
The 2011 Combat Tournament took place today in Seward. This is the largest armed forces event in Alaska. Over 250 soldiers geared up for a day of halibut fishing aboard Seward’s charter fleet. The Sea Quest lead the pack after the shotgun start at 6am. We steered East toward the island of Montague but stopped shy at Elrington island. The fishing was hot and heavy all day, Great bite but no size to any of the fish. We were looking for something over 100lb but the fish were not taking to any of the King Salmon carcasses we were presenting…some days the big ones don’t bite. We made a second move around 10:30 in search of some larger halibut but again nothing over 35lb was landed. We did however manage to land a few very nice Yelloweye while sitting on one of our rock piles. The weather was in our favor coming down consistently from a NE 15 to a variable 10 with seas around 4′. We had a great time with the soldiers and appreciate everything they do for our country. We were honored to have participated in the 2011 tournament…see you next year guys.
]The Sea Quest will have another trip on Saturday, May 28th. The weather is looking good with variable 10kt of wind and seas 5′. Tides are improving this week so better fishing should be right around the corner. There is still room on Monday’s trip, May 30th call (907)224-BOOK
Wednesday, May 25, 2011 May 23 Daily Catch!!!
Saturday, May 21, 2011 May 21st daily catch
We kicked off the season with a great day of halibut fishing. Fun group of people and perfect fishing weather with only 10kt of wind from the SE. Day started off slow, we then made a move and landed 5 nice halibut ranging from 50lb-80lb. The jigs outfished the bait today in 100′ of water. We made a final move and limited the boat with 48 halibut. Great start for the 2011 season. The Sea Quest will have its next trip on monday May 23, we still have plenty of seats left and the weather is calling for a variable 10kt so come out while the weather is nice and the fish are biting. See you out there…

Friday, March 18, 2011 “We’re gonna need a bigger boat”
This Halibut was caught on a 12oz Jig equipped with 8” Power Grub all on light tackle. There is nothing like battling one of these giant halibut on light weight gear. Client landed this barn door in less than 15 minutes. He handled this fish like a pro, keeping constant pressure on the line is essential while fishing with a jig. These big Halibut are known for spitting jigs while violently shaking their heads. So to land a monster like this one on a jig is quite a trophy.
Thursday, March 17, 2011 Spring Halibut Fishing!!!
Spring Halibut fishing is right around the corner. Here is some info on the Pacific Halibut and the gear and bait used to catch them.
Alaskan Halibut:
Alaskan Halibut are one of the most sought after fish of the northern pacific. Halibut are one of the largest fish in the sea and are by far the largest of all the flatfish. Halibut is prized for its delicate sweet flavor, snow-white color and firm flaky meat. It is an excellent source of high-quality protein and minerals, low in sodium, fat and calories and contains a minimum of bones. They can grow to more than 8 ft. long and 700 lbs. On average the size ranges from twenty to forty pounds. Halibut weighing over 100 are caught on a daily basis but are considered trophy fish. In Alaska we have a way of classifying the different size ranges of halibut. You too can speak fish….
CHICKEN 10-20LB
ROOSTER 20-40LB
TURKEY 40-99LB
HOG 100-200LB
BARN DOOR 200-AND UP
Our crew will provide you with the most up to date and top of the line rod, reel and tackle the industry has to offer.
When fishing with bait you will be provided with the following:
ROD: Penn Mariner 5’ (80-100lb)
Reel: Shimano Trynos 30(5:0:1) ratio makes for easy reeling and lots of drag control
Line: Tuff Line 80-100lb strongest most sensitive line on the market, allowing the angler to feel even the most finicky of fish at depths exceeding 300’
Bait: The type of bait you will be provided will depend on the time of the year. Halibut in the spring are very responsive to Herring, Cod, and Octopus. King, Coho, Pink and Sockeye Salmon are another favorite snack for the halibut but are usually only effective during June, July and August. The crew on the vessel pays close attention to the halibuts feeding habits and will provide you with the most effective bait for that time of the year.
Hook: Stainless Steel circle hook has been the choice of most anglers in Alaska. The hook is engineered to hook the fish for you…no more missed bites. Different sizes will vary depending on the concentration of fish. Smaller hooks are used for more finicky days where the halibut aren’t in dense concentrations.
Jigging with artificial baits and lures:
ROD: 6’ or 7’ lightweight (40-80lb)
REEL: Various styles depending on anglers experience. Reels ranging from 5:0:1 gear ratio to 6:2:1 allowing fast retrieval with minimal turns.
LINE: Tuff Line 60-80lb. There is no elasticity in the line, giving the angler full control of hook set and head control.
LURE: There are many different types of jigs and lures on the market. We have had the opportunity to trial and error a lot of these different styles, weights and colors. Over the years we have narrowed them down to just a few. You will be outfitted with our top choices in Jig heads, Tails and colors. If you would like to bring a favorite lure or something that caught your eye in the tackle store feel free, but we do encourage the use of our gear.

June 24, 2015- Hog gobbles up a live Pink Salmon
We have been trying a lot of different structure out East and so far this has been our best season in 5 years. Figured we couldn’t do any worse than we had done for the previous 3 hours. We lucked out, after about 1/2 hour and just before slack tide we were able to get a big one to take a full live Pink Salmon we had caught earlier in the day. In Prince William Sound it is legal to use live Pinks as bait and it can prove to be a very effective bait when they wont bite anything else. Amanda did great letting the fish take the entire bait before setting the hook. Many people have the tendency to set the hook to early, pulling the bait away from the fish and spooking it. She fed him good and fought it like a pro. The Sea Quest was still was still in search of 52 Halibut at 1:30pm, I wasn’t worried because the afternoon bite has been hot at one of our spots. We pulled up dropped the lines and pulled out 2 hours later with 54 Halibut.
